Exhibit Space

Patrick Webb is the 2021 CollexArt Grand Prize Award winner and the recipient of a Purchase Award. His work brings to light the struggles of humanity through his subject matter and through the incorporation of his recurring character Punchinello who appears in scenes of conflict throughout much of Webb's work.

It is Punchinello’s mask that reminds us of our current condition of hidden identities and of our vulnerability to external forces. The subject matter of Webb's paintings resonates through history, as events in the USA and other parts of the world underscore our collective struggle with an existential threat of a global virus, and the sadly common threats that human beings force upon one another to conform, fall in line, and obey.
