Artist Statement

My Travel Prints (unpacked from their portfolio-travel-suitcase) cross distances and borders seeking common ground among diverse cultures.
The places and experiences we share in travel and ordinary life are full of both chance and choice. I’m intrigued by the crossroads of unpredictability and necessity, the allure of new encounters and the distinct sense of place. Difficult decisions have long been a part of my work as I walk the line between the conceptual and the material worlds.

These prints began as moments captured casually on my phone. Transformed in Photoshop, and later made into etchings using a direct to plate technique, they are both an expression of chance and choice. While the destinations may seem exotic, I constantly found myself drawn to vignettes of the familiar and the ordinary. To me, the universality of simple moments across oceans, and cultures, and political divides is what travel is truly about.
